The emphasis was on information that the authors believed would be directly useful to practitioners; it was not intended as a scientific monograph. Feedback from many users over the years has indicated that the book was reasonably successful in meeting this objective. Advances in the field and in the authors' view of the subject matter meant this new edition is mostly rewritten. Several topics that were felt to have little application have been deleted, and several melt processing operations not covered in the first edition have been added, including rotomolding, polymer foam production, and thermoforming.This book is designed to fulfill a dual role.
