1Significance of mangroves in fisheries
Mangroves play a vital role in coastal fisheries production and management besides supporting brackishwater fisheries resources round the year. Mangroves serve as efficient nursery grounds for many marine fish stocks. They provide certain essential nutrients and minerals to the coastal ecosystem through the tidal process. This in turn leads to high biological productivity of inshore waters, thereby enriching the food web and coastal fishery production. Mangroves serve as storehouse for valuable genetic resources with diverse aquaculture potential. The early life history of many species of marine crustaceans and fishes and their recruitment pattern could be monitored with precision in the mangrove waterways
